Fingerling production of Sebastes schlegeli and its culture

Abstract
Studies were carried out to identify effective fingerling production and culture techniques of the rock fish(Sebastes schlegeli) from 1987 to 1990, which will benefit fish farmers as well as fingerling release programme of the Government. The maturation of gonads was occured at different time periods between the sexes:females were matured from the middle of April to late May, whilst males were matured from September to October. The juvenile fishes were born between late Appril and early June and water temperarure varied from 10.9¡É to 17.0¡É during the period. The parent fishes reared in heated water tanks gave births one month earlier than the batural body length (L) and number of juvenile fishes born was E=4.3794 L^(2.8259). The birth rate between natural and reared stock was different: the rate of natural stock was 48.8%, whilst it was 76.5% in the stock reared for 5 months in tanks. The mean body length of the fish was 6.2~6.6§® at the time of birth, 8.7~19.4§® at one month later and 29.3~47.2§® at two months later. Survival rates were also differnet between tanks¢¥ capacity: in small tanks it was 3.9~20.3% at one month later from the birth and 2.7~4.7% at two month later, whilst in large tank, it was 55.% at one month later and 6.7% at two months later.
